On June 23, 2012, I wrote an Island Thank you for Ted and Fe’s wedding. So now it is time for another.
What a June we have had here on Fishers. The weekend weather has cooperated every time, and held fast to cool days and clear nights for all four weddings, right through June 20 – except for a short drizzle around 5:00 as we left the church – which did not deter anyone from photo ops or the delicious pigs in a blanket, and resulted in a magnificent double rainbow over Hay Harbor.
Annie has loved this island her whole life; she has grown up here and has always taken great pleasure in sharing it with her friends from near and far. There was never any doubt in her and Jack’s minds that they would be married anywhere else, despite suggestions from us that other spots have hotels, inns, and B&Bs.
But this Island, filled with kind, generous, thoughtful, and helpful people, helped make it all happen. And we could not have done it without each and every one of you!
You opened your homes and offered housing for our family and friends; gave wonderful advise; helped with stamps, and mailings; beautified our garden, placed house signs, lent trucks and tables, found ice, cooked meals, cleaned, planned, shopped, made beds, took dump runs, directed cars, and checked on freight; decorated a get-away car, baked Fishers Island cookies and the wedding cake; hosted a luncheon, found the perfect flowers, created all the centerpieces, folded napkins, helped make bouquets, assembled church programs, sent us down the aisle and had bells ringing; set tables, bartended, shucked oysters, and stocked South-sides; drove a school van, shared photos, opened the Yacht Club, Legion, St. John’s Church, Library, and Pequot to our guests; scooped ice cream, served up late night hotdogs, added ferries, made midnight runs, checked on things, cheered us on, and kindly gave directions. We literally can’t thank you enough! Just another wonderful example of ‘it does take an Island’!
