If you have been squishing Spotted Lanternflies this season, there is now a way to make it a competition. A Connecticut father and son created a free game called “Spotted” that lets you log, photograph, and track every lanternfly you smash. The platform has leaderboards, community competitions, and even a virtual smashing option for rainy days. It is a fun and genuinely useful tool since the data helps researchers track where populations are spreading!
Sign up at lanternflygame.com and read more about the story behind it here! Then, join the Fishers Squad, Spotted on FI, and work as a team!

Once you have signed up to ‘play’ and have a User Name and Password, and are a Hunter for these beastly bugs, you can add the SPOTTED link as a button on your phone to make reporting even easier – to load a photo and add the squished details.
Here is How:
📲 Installing the app
Keep Spotted! on your Home Screen for an easy way back. It is free to add, with no app store download.
iPhone or iPad
- Open lanternflygame.com in Safari.
- Tap Share (the square with an upward arrow). In some Safari layouts, tap More (…) first.
- Choose Add to Home Screen. If it is missing, look under Edit Actions in the Share menu.
- If shown, keep Open as Web App enabled, then tap Add.
- Open the new Spotted! icon on your Home Screen.
Android
- Open lanternflygame.com in Chrome.
- Open the three-dot menu. Look for Install and create shortcut, Install app, or Add to Home screen; wording varies.
- Choose Install or Add and follow the confirmation steps. Then open the new Spotted! icon.
On a computer
In Chrome, use the menu’s Cast, save, and share → Install page as app, or the install icon in the address bar when available. On supported versions of Safari for Mac, use Share → Add to Dock.
Opened this site inside Facebook, Instagram, or another app? Open the same address in Safari or Chrome first. You can also keep playing in your browser—installation is optional.
Sign in with your existing account if asked; you do not need a new hunter. Adding the icon does not automatically enable notifications—those have a separate setting in Profile. Internet access is still needed to load current scores and submit finds.
