The Open Meetings or “Sunshine” laws of New York State and Suffolk County give the public the right to attend meetings of public bodies, listen to the debates, and watch the decision-making process in action. The law also requires that notice of the time and place of all meetings be given prior to every meeting.
Following is a list of upcoming meetings that fall under the auspices of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services. Note: Space may be limited at each of these meetings. Guests are asked to call in advance if they plan to attend. In many cases, please call the Mental Health Division at 631-853-8500 to get the numbers to participate. Specifics are below.

Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Subcommittee* of the Community Mental Hygiene Services Advisory Board via Microsoft Teams
Wednesday, March 4, 2026, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Subcommittee is made up of consumers, parents, advocates, professionals and agency providers who consider developmental disabilities issues and advise the Director of Community Mental Hygiene Services as necessary through the advisory board.

Mental Health Subcommittee of the Community Mental Hygiene Services Advisory Board via Microsoft Teams
Wednesday, March 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Mental Health Subcommittee is comprised of consumers, parents, advocates, professionals, and agency providers who consider mental health issues and advise the Director of Community Mental Hygiene Services as necessary, through the advisory board.All meetings will be held via Microsoft Teams. Substance Use Disorders Subcommittee of the Mental Hygiene Services Advisory Board via Microsoft Teams
Thursday, March 5, 2026, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Substance Use Disorders Subcommittee is comprised of consumers, parents, advocates, professionals and agency providers who consider alcohol and substance use issues and advise the Director of Community Mental Hygiene Services as necessary through the advisory board. All meetings will be held via Microsoft Teams. Please call the Mental Health Division at 631-853-8500 to get the numbers to participate.

Wednesday, March 18, 2026, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Board of Health, at the request of the Commissioner of Health Services, considers matters relating to the preservation and improvement of public health. The Board members meet on the third Wednesday of most months, with a break during the summer season. In the event that a quorum cannot be achieved at a particular meeting, the meeting will be cancelled. Please contact the Department at 631-854-0100 prior to the meeting to confirm that a quorum is expected. The portion of the meeting reserved for public comments is generally held within the first several minutes of the meeting. The time limit for speakers may be limited to three minutes.

Environmental Quality Board of Review
Thursday, March 19, 2026, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Board of Review hears requests for variances and waivers to the county’s requirements for water and sewage disposal, for new construction, and for storage of toxic or hazardous materials, as stated in the Suffolk County Sanitary Code. A listing of each month’s scheduled hearings, as well as additional information about the board, can be obtained by contacting the Department of Health Services’ Division of Environmental Quality at 631-852-5800.
