Lighthouse Works and the McCance Foundation are thrilled to announce the endowment of the Harry S. Parker III Visiting Artist Program. The program celebrates the legacy of the late Harry Parker, a founding board member of Lighthouse Works and a distinguished museum director known for his dedication to art education and his ability to elevate the institutions he led.
The Harry S. Parker III Visiting Artist Program connects the Fishers Island community with leading voices in contemporary art and literature, enriching the island’s cultural landscape and fostering a deeper appreciation for creative practice. Visiting artists spend a long weekend at Lighthouse Works, presenting their work through public programs and engaging with Lighthouse Works’ Fellows in the studios.
Speaking on behalf of the Parker family, Tom Parker offered the following statement:
“Our family is thankful to the McCance Foundation and to Lighthouse Works for honoring Harry in this way. Among Dad’s greatest goals in life were supporting artists and educating his communities about art. Knowing that his passions will live on through this endowed program is gratifying.“
Lighthouse Works’ Executive Director, Nate Malinowski, shared:
“In addition to his extraordinary leadership at both the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Dallas Museum of Art, Harry played a pivotal role in establishing the early credibility and artistic vision of Lighthouse Works. We are honored to partner with the McCance Foundation to endow this program in his name. It’s a fitting tribute—one that ensures Harry’s unwavering commitment to supporting artists and fostering cultural exchange will continue to shape Lighthouse Works for generations to come.”
The inaugural visitors as part of the Harry S. Parker III Visiting Artist Program will begin in the summer of 2025. For more information about the program, contact Nate Malinowski at nate@lighthouseworks.us or at (631) 788-7713.
