Laura “Laurie” Hale Clingenpeel, 67, of Mystic, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 20, 2025, after a long battle with dementia.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Scott Clingenpeel; daughters, Rebecca “Becky”, and Molly; son Andrew, their spouses; and her grandson, Hunter.
Laurie was raised by her adoptive parents, Katherine “Kiki” Arnold and William Hale, and brother, Richard “Dick” Hale in Longmeadow, Mass. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University. Laurie immensely loved spending her summers on Fishers Island, N.Y. at the family cottage, where she met Scott in 1979, and married on Valentine’s Day 1981.
Laurie and Scott settled in Norwalk, after Scott took a job as Captain at the Norwalk Yacht Club in 1987. Over the next 26 years, Laurie found joy in supporting the membership at the club and teaching the 3-year-old class at the United Church Nursery School. On behalf of Laurie and her family, we would like to thank the NYC and UCNS for their years of love and support.
Laurie shared wonderful memories with so many and will always be remembered for her warm and caring nature, radiant smile, and for always being the life of the party. Laurie’s favorite things were attending her kids’ sports games, spending quality time with her friends and family, and enjoying warm days on the beach at Fishers Island. Her presence will be forever missed, and she lives eternally in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be organized for the early summer. In lieu of sending flowers to the family, please consider making a donation to The Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration (https://www.theaftd.org/) in her memory.
