Re: Using New York State Exchange Insurance to see doctors in New London, CT, and Dr. Chris Ingram on Fishers

Maggie Middleton, the Director of Plan Management in the New York State Department of Health in Albany, has sent letters to the insurance issuers listed below. The letter indicates to the issuers that healthcare providers practicing in New London, CT, (for all lines of business) should approve requests for Out of Network Authorizations by enrollees residing on Fishers Island, NY.

The Department is cognizant that Issuers (insurance companies) with enrollees (us) living on Fishers Island will understand and take into consideration the unique location of this population when reviewing such requests.

Prior to accessing care in CT, these enrollees (Fishers Islanders) will need to contact their health plan provider (telephone numbers can be found on the back of the member ID card) to get approval to request this Out of Network Authorization.
