John Burnham and Reed Baer won the 60th Shields National Championship at Larchmont Yacht Club. From September 19-21, 2024 the Shields Class National Championship was held at Larchmont Yacht Club on Long Island Sound. The event drew 22 boats with competitors traveling from as far as Narragansett Bay, Monterey, CA, and Edgartown, MA to take part. Over the three days all eight races were completed with conditions ranging from light, tricky winds on the first day to a stronger easterly breeze in the final race.
John and Reed captured their fourth Shield National title, adding to their previous wins in 2002, 2011 and 2016. Sailing aboard Shields #107 Grace, alongside teammates Rachel Balaban, Mat Buechner, and Pete Schott, they dominated the series to clinch in the championship before the last race, congratulations to all.
