UPDATE: The first recorded osprey sighting for 2025 is by Ellen Parker about 11:15 am, Saturday, March 15 on the roof of Holiday House! Not only is it a gift to see the ospreys back, but she is awarded, as the first person who sees a returning Osprey, a copy of Mark Smith’s Osprey – The Glorious Pursuit of Unbridled Determination, an extraordinary pictorial celebration of the species.

On behalf of the Fishers Island Community and the H. L. Ferguson Museum, I would like to thank the following island businesses for their help in upgrading, replacing, and supporting the growing Osprey nesting population on the island.
- Pirates Cove Marina — Billy Wall and his team for building new platforms
- Fishers Island Ferry District — for donating the piling to support the new nest platform
- Race Rock Garden Co. — upgrading existing platforms and thinning out overhanging branches via their bucket truck
- Fishers Island Electric Co. — putting up a new pole and platform along South Beach

Please let Ken Edwards know of additional sightings as the birds start returning to their nests on Fishers. If possible, please take a photo to document your sighting and its location.

As Ken Edwards, SR reported, “People see them one day and not the next day but that’s not uncommon as they leave to find food here and in CT. Then they come back in a day or two. As of Saturday, March 29, I saw only three sites where I have not seen birds this spring, but I may have missed them. The osprey at Bogert’s site just showed up yesterday.”
