Kate provided updates on upcoming events, including a zoning update meeting on Thursday 6/11/26 and the Town Board’s annual meeting on July 14th at the Community Center. She discussed ongoing initiatives, including potential legislation for a peace officer on Fishers Island and updates on the tennis courts improvements and sewer district repairs. She will continue advocacy for DMV on Fishers and, if community support exists, organize a letter-writing campaign regarding peace officer bill. Kate also coordinated with Don Fisher, Johnny B, and Christian Arsenault for emergency management assessment and future training for shelter volunteers.
Community Garden
Gail Edwards highlighted the Community Garden’s progress and called for volunteers.
Police Update
Officer William Brewer provided an overview of the Fishers police presence, noting two officers stationed seven days a week, and addressed questions about vehicle inspections and licensing. He discussed the current temporary arrangement with offices on Whistler Avenue and expressed appreciation for community support. Jim Baker thanked the police officers for their service and courtesy.
Island Health Update
Diane Baker from the IHP announced the hiring of new physician Dr. Lauren Davis, who is triple board certified in family medicine, osteopathic neuroskeletal medicine, and functional medicine, and will begin work in August. The community will have an opportunity to meet Dr. Davis at a future open house event, and she will establish relationships with L&M Hospital under Yale New Haven for patient referrals.
Utility Company Update
Armando Pereira provided updates on several infrastructure projects, including electric system upgrades across the island and ongoing efforts to secure USDA funding for a submarine cable project, with installation planned for 2027. He reported that water losses hover between 25-30% due to multiple leaks in the system, and discussed investments in broadband resilience including upgrades to connect east and west networks.
Fishers Island School Update
Christian Arsenault announced that enrollment stands at 56 students with a 50/50 split between Connecticut and Island residents, and reported that a construction project to improve the school’s facilities has been completed. The school also recently earned New England Schools and Colleges accreditation and will hold a runoff election on June 23rd to fill a tied board seat.
With no further questions or business, John adjourned the meeting around 6:00 PM.
