Island Treasures is a 12th grade English project where students design and produce original multimodal works—ranging from short documentaries to podcasts—that explore meaningful stories within and beyond our community. Through research, interviews, writing, editing, and peer review students learn to craft narratives with clarity and creativity while developing essential life skills in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. The project not only helps seniors grow as storytellers and critical thinkers but also serves as a gift back to the community, preserving local voices and perspectives for years to come.
In her Spring 2025 Island Treasure Interview titled “Ken Edwards: Life Impacts”, Maddie L. interviewed Ken Edwards, Sr., about his life on the island, and in particular, his love of birds and nature.
The featured photo of Ken Edwards, SR, during a recent FI Conservancy Island Bird Count is by Todd McCormack, who also deserves credit for the osprey photographs in this video c/o the HLF Museum.
