The leadership of Fishers Island Union Chapel (FIUC) has been closely monitoring the ever-evolving situation with the CORVID-19 virus. As Christians, we are supposed to respond to life out of love and faith in God, not to react out of fear or anxiety.
After prayerful consideration of the latest scientific information, the leadership of the U.C.C. SNEConference recommendations, and in conversation with local medical advisors the leadership of FIUC has cancelled public worship for Sunday, March 15th and March 22nd. This decision is felt to be one that is faithful and honors our concern for our congregation and the community, many of whom are in the higher risk categories. This is meant to be a proactive decision and one which we will continue to reassess as the current situation evolves.
The Chapel will be open from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on both Sundays for personal prayer and mediation. Reverend Pamela Vollinger will be in the office and available for prayer or conversation. She is also available by phone, email, and for personal visits.
The leadership is currently exploring other creative ways to be connected and worship that does not involve gathering together in the chapel.
The leadership of FIUC encourages you to keep in your prayers: all who are suffering from the virus; all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who are treating patients; all the leaders who are deciding procedures about how to deal with the situation, and all people to be calm and practice appropriate preventive measures.
Remember, we are not alone in this situation. God is always with us and nothing can separate us from the love of God!
Supper and Movie Night which was scheduled for March 15 is POSTPONED until a TBD date.
