Islanders for Islanders

Islanders for Islanders is a joint initiative of the four Fishers Island churches: Church on the Rock, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, St. John’s Church, and Union Chapel. We aim to confidentially provide resources and support, to improve the quality of life, for year-round island families and individuals in need of assistance. We are on island year-round and therefore able to respond nimbly to challenges and opportunities.

For those in need, Islanders offers support for groceries, utility bills, health-related expenses, and tuition support for adults. In the past couple of years we have also supported island organizations such as The Community Garden, the Fishers Island School, The Island Health Project, and The West End Café.

Islanders for Islanders offers generous educational grants to year-round residents interested in furthering their job skills. In particular, we would like to support individuals interested in certifications to staff the IHP Island Home Care Initiative. Relevant certifications include Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Patient Care Attendant (PCA).

In December 2022 Islanders distributed to each year-round island individual or family a small gift bag containing products from island businesses: Stephanie Hall’s chocolates, Heidi du Pont’s cookies and Robin Toldo’s granola – all in festive gift bags and wrapping supported by Heather Burnham.
