Born in Paris France to Mary Hansberry Downey and the late Richard J. Downey in 1958. She is survived by her sisters Terry Downey of West Barnstable and Kathy Downey Kenney (Tom) of Palm City, FL; brother Bob Downey of Stuart, FL; and nephew Chris Wilcox of Provincetown, MA.
Pat moved frequently as a child (Army Brat) before settling back on Cape Cod at the age 14. She worked for over 40 years in the private club industry. She spent most of her career between the Jupiter Island Club, FL and the Fishers Island Club, NY where she finished her career as the GM of the Fishers Island Club with the completion of the new clubhouse.
Pat met the love of her life and best friend while working at the Jupiter Island Club in FL. They built their dream home in Centerville 12 years ago, spending the off-season here, retiring full time here in 2017. Stefan and Pat have worked and played together for the past 23 years, celebrating their 21st anniversary on October 31st. During their off-season they traveled the world and hosted many dinner parties with friends and family. Even during her brave fight with cancer, she never lost the zest of life and kept traveling and making the best of her situation. Pat loved people and had a kindness which was truly unique. She made everybody she met a better person. Pat wants to be remembered by the following words:
Though miles run between us, we are never far apart, for friendship doesn’t count miles, it is measured by the heart. Looking forward to seeing you in my next adventure. Until then remember “life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s about learning to dance in the rain…”
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Eric Winer and his entire team at Dana-Farber and VNA Hospice for their unwavering and compassionate care of Pat.
