IN MEMORIAM: Carol Ann Peffley

Carol Ann Peffley, 83, of Groton passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Harbor Village in New London, CT.

Born November 11, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA, she is a daughter of Dr. Ralph Hoch and Ethel Small Hoch.

She is a graduate of the University of Delaware and served for several years as a missionary in Ecuador, South America, living in a camp in the Amazon jungle, representing Wycliffe Bible Translators. Carol Ann’s father Dr. Hoch was the island doctor on Fishers Island, NY for many years. Carol Ann taught 1st and 2nd grade at Fishers Island School in the 1960s and was married to Donald Peffley at Fishers Island’s Union Chapel. For many years with her sister Barbara, she would make an annual trip down south with a carload of excess books donated by Fishers Island Library. They would spend several weeks visiting relatives and distributing books throughout the south to libraries that needed them.

She will be remembered particularly for her strong faith, her sense of humor, and her love of cats and Jimmy Stewart movies.

Carol Ann is survived by her husband Donald Peffley of Groton; her brother, David Hoch, and sister, Barbara Hoch, both of Fishers Island; and her sister Susanae Glovacki, of Greenfield, MA, formerly of Fishers Island. She is also survived by her two sons, Scott Peffley, his wife, Lyanne, and her grandson, Luke, of Mansfield, CT; and Roger Peffley of New York City, NY.

A memorial service will be held on a date and time to be announced.

Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street is assisting the family with the arrangements.
