page1image60143840Fishers Island Union Free School District’s Class of 2020 graduation almost didn’t happen in the middle of this coronavirus pandemic. However, Gov. Cuomo set guidelines in place just in time to hold this intimate ceremony for the nine seniors on the School grounds on the planned date of Friday, June 26.

Commencement Speaker Ms. Jill Estorino

Ms. Jill Estorino is the Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Sales for Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products, where she oversees the global team responsible for promoting Disney destinations, experiences, and signature vacations around the world. She has been with the Walt Disney Company for 29 years and has held positions in Orlando, FL, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. Jill graduated from Florida State University and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.

Selected as a Bonner Leader at Sewanee where she’ll be attending school in the fall

Ellanora Lerner received UConn’s ECE Scholarship for Excellence in the Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences; the RMMS Foundation: Richard Virgin Scholarship; and from Temple Emanu-El Religious School: Rabbi Aaron Rosenberg Tikkun Olam Award

Jack Morrissey received The Senate Youth Leadership Award of Recognition from Senator Kenneth LaValle and The Dante Foundation Award for students of Italian-American heritage in Nassau and Suffolk Counties

Turning of the Tassel The tassel was originally designed to decorate the graduates’ cap during the ceremony but it has come to have symbolism as well. The gesture of moving the tassel from the right side of the cap to the left symbolizes the individual’s movement from candidate to graduate.
