Fishers Island School Closure re: COVID-19

March 27, 2020

Dear Fishers Island Families,

I hope that this finds you all well. It is truly hard to believe that we have been out of school for two weeks now. However, I have never been so proud of the work that this school community has done in service of our students. I am entirely grateful for all of you and to call Fishers Island my home.

Today, Governor Cuomo ordered all New York Schools to be closed until at least April 15, 2020. It seems like the current plan will be to take the closure two weeks at a time. I will continue to update you all as we receive new directives from state and local officials.

As a reminder, we will formally begin our Distance Learning Program on Monday, March 30th. Our staff has been working hard to finalize plans and will communicate specific schedules, expectations, and supports for each grade level/course. Please access our recent Virtual Community Meeting for more information and specifics on our Distance Learning Program. The recording and presentation are both available at www.fischool.com.

I want to thank our entire school community for their continued support and positive feedback during the last several weeks. Your kind words and supportive messages have been constant reminders that serving this community is a true privilege.

Lastly, your feedback will be important as we continue to refine our plan to meet the needs of all of our students. Please communicate any needs with all members of our staff as we continue “to build our plane”. We will get through this together!

In your service, Christian Arsenault

Superintendent/Principal Fishers Island School
