At the Fishers Island School Board meeting Tuesday, May 19, the Board voted to approve the 2020-2021 School budget which includes a .5% teacher pay increase.

Sunday, June 6 Gov. Cuomo extended the deadline for NY State School budget voting and BOE elections to Tuesday, June 16.

Budget Vote: Tuesday, June 16 by 5:00 p.m. by Absentee Ballot

How to Vote: Drop off completed ballots, in the signed and sealed envelope provided, to the Post Office Window by 5:00 p.m. on June 16th.
PLEASE DO NOT PUT BALLOT ENVELOPES IN THE MAIL OR MAILBOX.

BUDGET SPENDING
$3,649,481, a .35% percent increase from the current $3,636,751.

TAX LEVY
Proposed Tax Levy (FY2020-FY2021): 1.73%

TEACHER PAY | PROGRAMS
Includes a .5% teacher pay increase.

CANDIDATES
Incumbent Jamie Doucette, incumbent Robin Toldo, and candidate Catherine Edwards are running for the 2 open positions, elected at-large, on the Fishers Island BOE. The term is three years.

WHEN | WHERE
Voting is by absentee ballot which has been mailed with the FIS BOE May Budget Newsletter and a return envelope to every individual voter on the Suffolk County Board of Election Roll. All who are registered voters in Fishers Island, NY, Suffolk County, NY are eligible to vote.*

Ballots are due to the POST OFFICE WINDOW (not the mailbox) by 5:00 pm Tuesday, June 16.

Please follow all instructions printed on the ballot and the provided return envelope – this includes signing the envelop where indicated to confirm your eligibility as a voter. Ballots will be opened/counted by certified Election Officials on June 9th at Fishers Island School. All steps will be taken to ensure confidentiality throughout the voting process.

Voter Requirements

  • Citizen of the United States
  • Legal Resident* on or before April 21, 2020
  • 18 years old on or by May 21, 2020

*Proof of Residency (requires one of the following):

  • Voter name appears on the Fishers Island Election Roll from the Suffolk County Board of Elections
  • A driver’s license with a Fishers Island address
  • A non-driver New York State identification card with a Fishers Island address

NOTE: Having voted in previous FIUFSD election(s) does not in and of itself qualify a person in a current election.
