FICC’s Classic Movie Night

An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until January 28, 2021

The Fishers Island Community Center is pleased to again offer Classic Movie Night! The movies will be shown in the Great Room on the 2nd floor of the FICC, with the elevator in full working order.

At this time, attendance limited to the first 18 people. Social distancing, masks required.

Doors open at 6:30pm, film at 7:00pm. Admission by donation.

Each movie will have a short introduction by former faculty David Hoch who taught a class in this subject.

Please remember to social distance and wear a mask. A small selection of drinks and snacks, are available in the vending machine in the 1st floor Café lounge, and you may BYO beverage.

So Proudly We Hail (1943) War Drama Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard, Veronica Lake, George Reeves, Sonny Tufts. 126 min. In honor of Veterans Day, one of the few films made about women in WWII, specifically, the nurses serving on Bataan. Made and released when the war was very much in doubt. Oscar winner for special effects.
Thursday, Nov. 19
Cabaret (1974) Musical Liza Minelli (Oscar), Michael York, Joel Grey (Oscar); directed by Bob Fosse (Oscar). 124 min. Not what you’d expect in a musical. Story is set in 1931 in Berlin during the Nazi rise to power. Based on a short story about real-life events; contains many memorable songs and a tour-de-force performance from Liza Minnelli.
No film during Thanksgiving Week.

Pickup on South Street (1953) Film Noir Richard Widmark, Jean Peters, Thelma Ritter, Richard Kiley, written and directed by Samuel Fuller. 80 min. Typically tough, gritty crime drama from writer/director Fuller, with memorable Oscar-nominated performance from veteran character actress Ritter. The FBI tried to shut this film down!

One, Two, Three (1961) Comedy James Cagney, Arlene Francis, Horst Buchholz, Pamela Tiffen, Red Buttons, directed by Billy Wilder. 108 min. Frenetic cold-war satire of a Coca Cola executive in West Berlin whose daughter falls in love with an East German radical. A whirlwind, non-stop performance from Cagney, and shot on location in Berlin while the wall was being built! Fast-paced, topical, laugh out loud story from Billy Wilder!

The Three Godfathers (1948) Western      John Wayne, Pedro Armendariz, Harry Carey, Jr., Ward Bond, directed by John Ford. 108. min. A unique Holiday story, this is a re-telling of the story of the Three Wisemen in an American Western context, as three outlaws find a baby in the desert. Filmed partly in Death Valley by four-time Oscar winner John Ford.
