FICC Classic Movie Night: Sugarland Express (1974)

“Classic Movie Night” at the Community Center, 7pm

  • NY State has dropped the mask mandate, so it is no longer mandatory to wear a mask at the movie.
  • Admission is by donation. Microwave popcorn, soda, and water will be available, also by donation.

Each film will be introduced by David Hoch, a retired English professor who has taught several different film courses.

Thursday, Sept. 8- Sugarland Express (1974)- comedy/drama, 110 min., rated PG

     Goldie Hawn, Ben Johnson, William Atherton, Michael Sacks, Directed by Steven Spielberg.

Based on a true story, a husband and wife try to outrun the law to retrieve their son in foster care.

Thursday, Sept. 15- Twelve O’Clock High (1949)-war drama, 132 min.

     Gregory Peck, Dean Jagger (Oscar), Gary Merrill, Hugh Marlowe, Millard Mitchell.

During WWII, a 6th Air Force officer is ordered to take over a ‘’bad luck’’ Flying Fortress unit.

Thursday, Sept. 22- His Girl Friday (1940)-comedy, 92 min.

     Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell, Ralph Bellamy, Gene Lockhart, Directed by Howard Hawks.

Comic version of The Front Page with Grant as conniving editor and Russell as star reporter and ex-wife.

Thursday, Sept. 29- Witness (1985)- suspense, 112 min., rated R

     Harrison Ford, Kelly McGillis, Josef Sommer, Danny Glover, Directed by Peter Weir.

Amish boy witnesses a murder involving police corruption in an Oscar-winning script.

Thursday, Oct. 6- El Dorado (1967)-western, 126 min.

     John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, James Caan, Arthur Hunnicutt, Ed Asner, Directed by Howard Hawks.

A disabled gunfighter tries to help a drunken sheriff protect his town from a ruthless rancher.

Thursday, Oct. 13- Places in the Heart (1984)-drama, 111 min.

     Sally Field (Oscar), John Malcovich, Danny Glover, Ed Harris, Written and directed by Robert Benton.

In 1930’s Texas, a widow must cope with running a farm, with the era’s economic and racial issues.

Thursday, Oct. 20- Criss Cross (1949)- film noir, 87 min.

     Burt Lancaster, Yvonne De Carlo, Dan Duryea, Stephen McNally, Directed by Robert Siodmak.

Man returns to his hometown where he crosses paths with his ex-wife, who’s taken up with a gangster.

Tuesday, Oct. 25- The Naked Jungle (1954)- adventure, 95 min.

     Charlton Heston, Eleanor Parker, William Conrad, Directed by Byron Haskin, produced by George Pal.

In 1901, a coffee plantation owner in the Amazon welcomes a mail-order bride only to be confronted by a mysterious danger from the jungle.
