Turkey-Trot-2014-DSC_0071-660x438In addition to the Fishers Island community of family and friends (and a couple dogs), the island’s Thanksgiving race had two special runners this year.

We were pleased to meet Karen Rogers and Kate Powers, two members of the Run 169 Towns Society, who traveled by ferry from Clinton and Wethersfield to run in the Turkey Trot.

In an August 2014 Associated Press piece by Pat Eaton-Robb it explains, “Karen Rogers has run a road race in every one of Connecticut’s 169 cities and towns, an accomplishment that has given her the title “Queen of the Debticonns. Debticonn – short for Do Every Blessed Town in Connecticut – is a label used by members of the Run 169 Towns Society, a group of recreational runners of all skill levels who travel the state entering road races.”

At a recent meeting of the Run 169 Towns Society a member pointed out that there is one more town with a Connecticut zip code – that of course is Fishers – so the ladies came over to run in a 169 + 1 race.
