A FIFD Request: Visible House Numbers

by Jane Ahrens

In an emergency situation time is everything.

A very important reminder from the Fishers Island Fire Department.

Sometimes it is difficult for the responding EMS/Fire volunteers to find your house when an emergency call comes in. The Department members need house numbers to be visible from the street so the responders can get to any location island-wide as quickly as possible.

“We get dispatched to a street and a house number. We can find the street, but sometimes, not the specific residence”, explains Paramedic Rod Rodriguez.

The FIFD recommends reflective, backlit, or lighted numbers that can be seen from the street and at night.

Thank you to all for your assistance with this at your home.
