FIFD tackles Controlled Burn 2023

by Jane Ahrens

The 2023 controlled burn of the Parade Ground and Middle Farms occurred simultaneously on Wednesday, March 22. As John Sargent remarked in his 2018 article, “If you are ever on Island while a burn is taking place, take the time to go watch. Not only is it a remarkable sight, but it also ensures that the natural beauty of Fishers Island will stay intact for years to come.”

In addition to the firefighters executing the drill, the EMTs were on site to monitor the volunteers, and this year there were several Fishers Islanders who shared their ‘view’ of the burn with FishersIsland.net. Thank you to all who contributed to this collection. Photo credit is noted on each image.

FishersIsland.net and the accompanying Fog Horn eNewsletter serve as the communications resource for the Fishers Island community. The content – news, calendar, links and photos, milestones, ads, and more create a clear image of Fishers to those on and off the island.
