Survey: Help shape the future of housing in Southold Town & Fishers Island!

by Jane Ahrens

Dear Fishers Island Community,

Please take a few minutes to complete the attached survey.

Your anonymous answers will be used to guide Southold Town’s Housing Plan. The Town wants to better understand the housing needs of the community – by hamlet.

This is a Housing Survey that is going to be incorporated into the  Needs Assessment chapter of Southold’s Community Housing Fund Proposal.

The Community Housing Fund has provisions, approved by the Town Board, that will enable the Fishers community to take advantage of the monies generated from the additional .5% added to the Peconic Bay tax on all properties sold. The details are being drafted now and THIS SURVEY will provide valuable information in determining the priorities.

The survey typically takes 5 minutes or less to complete.

*SAMPLE QUESTION: After selecting Yes,
as a year-round or seasonal resident,
be sure to select Fishers Island from the hamlet list

I represent Fishers on the Housing Advisory Board. The draft of the proposal including the Needs Assessment chapter will be distributed to the Housing Advisory Board in the next few weeks. Over the next month it will be reviewed, discussed, revised and presented to the Town Board at the end of March. At that time there will be an opportunity for public comments. I will be involved in every step of this review and will share and reach out for further input.

Please complete the survey so Fishers’ views are represented and FISHERS’ VOICES ARE HEARD!

Thank you and please reach out with questions or concerns.

Warm regards,

Beth Cashel

Question: *The Survey seems focused on island residents, so if I am seasonal should I complete the survey?
Answer: Yes, please answer the survey if you are a year-round or seasonal resident. The same populations are getting this survey in all the Southold hamlets.
