IN MEMORIAM: Susie King Stickney

Susie King Stickney (73), a resident of Pound Ridge, NY, Orchid Island, FL, and a lifelong Fishers Island summer resident, passed away November 20, 2022, at NY Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. She was the daughter of Alfred and Nancy King, granddaughter of Jansen and Agnes Noyes, and sister to David King,  Kenny Howe, and to Freddy King who predeceased her. Susie is survived by her husband Albert Stickney III, daughters Katharine Stickney Sawyer (husband Hilary Sawyer) and Anna Noyes Stickney, a grandson Matthew Bradley Sawyer, two nephews, and countless cousins. She graduated from Rumson Country Day, Foxcroft, and Garland Junior College.

Susie could be found most days on the golf course. Her love of playing Fishers Island was unparalleled. She was a driven competitor in club championships and won over 10 championships across three decades and at multiple clubs. She will be remembered for her unwavering skills of golf but also for her sportsmanship off the course. She strove to be the best player win or lose and practiced by example.

If Susie wasn’t playing golf, she was either walking her dog Benny, painting, traveling the world with her husband, or visiting her grandson. She was a fierce and loyal friend. She was up for literally anything and would do it while laughing the whole time. When asked what her greatest accomplishments were, she would always tell people it was her kids and grandson. She loved being a mom and a grandmother.

Susie’s Funeral will be on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at St. Matthews Church in Bedford, NY at 1pm. If you cannot attend in person it will be live-streamed HERE There will also be a reception at Orchid Island Beach Club on January 21, 2023 at 12pm.
