The Board of Walsh Park invited the Fishers Island Community to an update presentation and discussion on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the Community Center.

The conversation was focused on Walsh Park’s potential purchase of land from the Fishers Island School District for the development of four year-round housing units on property currently owned by the School on the residential block bordered by Whistler Ave., Equestrian Ave., and Winthrop Drive.

Walsh Park board members and representatives from Tod Williams & Billie Tsien Architects provided a presentation and then took questions from the community. A Zoom link was provided for those that are unable to attend in person.

July 2022 The Fort Wright Neighborhood Assoc. thanked the Walsh Park board for sharing their preliminary plans with the neighbors prior to the public meeting July 26, 2022 – recognizing the neighbors’ heightened and appropriate interest in this project as it is literally in their backyard.

Fort Wright neighbors met following Sunday’s presentation and several concerns and questions have been raised.

These include, but are not limited to, vehicular traffic & safety, vehicular access to the development, size of the proposed structures for the given lot size, parking inadequacy, noise, privacy, and landscaping to name a few.

The neighborhood is looking forward to working with WP to hopefully resolve some issues with this proposal. And look forward to establishing a joint working group to collaboratively review these plans.
