IN MEMORIAM: Barbara Lee Partch

Barbara Lee Partch, known as Babs by her close friends and family, was born in 1937, in Baltimore, Md., to Paul K. Partee and Barbara (Arnold) Partee. She has one sister, Carol Pagano, who survives her.

As a teen, Barbara moved to Staten Island with her family, attended Curtis High School, and graduated from Middlebury College in 1959. Barbara moved to Fishers Island in 1961, where she lived for ten years with her husband Gilbert Partch, and raised their four children.

Barbara moved to Staten Island in 1972, where she worked for Maersk Shipping and retired after 25 years. In her retirement years, Barbara lived in Hallandale Beach, FL, during the winter months and New Jersey in the summer. She had many very close friends. In 2021, Barbara moved to Connecticut to be closer to family, and most recently lived in Mystic, where she died peacefully in her sleep.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Barbara Lee Partch? Everyone loved her and she made friends wherever she went. Barbara would make people smile and laugh and was always caring of others. She loved to travel, saw many beautiful places, and always tried to make sure family traveled with her. Barbara was always involved with her churches and taught Sunday school. She loved singing, swimming and just having her toes in the sand. Most of all, she loved being with her family. She spread positivity to everyone she met; and she will be seriously missed by those who knew her.

Barbara leaves behind her four children: Laurie, Gregory, Douglas and Jeffrey; her grandchildren: Samantha, Abigail, Christopher, Gregory, Kristen, Kimberly and Crystal; and great-grandchildren: Viola, Angelia, Ethan, Carla, Alli and Jean Carlos Jr.

Service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Fishers Island Union Chapel. Celebration of Life to follow.
