IPP offers new CPR AED Course

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED blended course (online and in-person skills session)

Sponsored by Island People’s Project

New this year, this two-part course includes an American Heart Association online session and an in-person skills session with Fishers Island’s own, Jessica Hall, an English teacher at the Fishers Island School, FIFD EMT, and a certified CPR instructor.

This course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs first aid and/or CPR training and a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements such as childcare workers, teachers, and camp counselors. It is also ideal for parents, grandparents, and babysitters or anyone involved in childcare who might need to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.

The eLearning portion of the Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED blended learning course is designed to teach students the cognitive information needed for pediatric first aid, CPR, and AED training. Upon completion of the online portion, students must complete a hands-on skills session, which includes First aid basics training and involves medical, injury, poison, and environmental emergencies, preventing illnesses and injuries and controlling bleeding and bandaging. We will cover topics like using a tourniquet, shock, internal bleeding, burns and electrical injuries, allergic reactions, breathing problems and dehydration, diabetes and low blood sugar, heat-and cold-related emergencies, drowning, amputations, bites and stings, broken bones and sprains. We will also cover splinters, choking, nose bleeds, fainting, seizures, and injuries to the head, eyes, neck, spine, mouth, and teeth, as well as choking CPR with the use of an AED.

*Please note the online portion of the course must be completed prior to the in-person skills session on June 29.
