From the Commodore’s Spring 2022 FIYC Letter to Members
“On a personal note, if everything goes according to plan, I will be handing over the helm of the FIYC to Tom duPont for May and half of June. I will be participating in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, Leg 7 (crew), from Seattle to Bermuda.
The race began in London in September 2019 and they completed 5 legs before COVID halted the race in the Philippines. (Leg 6 called for a stop in China in January 2020 which was of course cancelled due to Covid outbreak.) The race has restarted and they have crossed the Pacific from the Philippines and are just arriving to Seattle now.
Our race begins May 1, passes through the Panama Canal and finishes at Bermuda around June 14. I will be aboard the vessel Ha Long Bay, a 70-foot vessel with crew of 20, competing against ten other yachts in the race. You can monitor our progress by going to the Clipper website and clicking on “Race Viewer”. Ha Long Bay is the little green boat.
I hope you will follow our race closely!”
With best wishes to all,
