The Museum reopens with a new exhibition:
Fishers Island, Naturally
Adult virtual and children’s in-person programs begin June 6
The H. L. Ferguson Museum reopens July 1 with an exciting new exhibition, Fishers Island, Naturally, curated by Museum Director Pierce Rafferty and generously sponsored by Altus Partners and Chubb.
This contemporary photography and art show will explore natural habitats of Fishers Island including shoreline and marine, ponds and marshes, woodlands, and grasslands. The wide array of panels will showcase the island’s remarkable bird life and fauna, including ospreys, herons, hawks, minks, coyotes, and other winged or four-legged creatures, as seen through the lens of some of the island’s most talented photographers. The exhibition in the Museum’s galleries will be complemented by an expanded virtual show on the Museum’s website.
Two special exhibitions within the main show include a selection of striking nature photographs in the Second Floor Gallery by seasonal resident Todd McCormack. One-of-a-kind monotypes by artist and illustrator Genevieve Irwin, also a seasonal resident, will be on display in the Natural History Gallery. In addition, a selection of iNaturalist images arranged taxonomically by Murray Fisher will reveal the rich biodiversity of Fishers Island.
Safety protocols when visiting inside the Museum will be posted on the door.
Please note that through the 2021 summer season all adult lectures are scheduled to be virtual, although some may shift to being both virtual and “in person.” Changes will be posted. Invitations will be sent via the Museum’s e-news mailing list the week before each adult lecture. Sign up at the footer of the website fergusonmuseum.org.
