The Fishers Island Community Theater will be open for business this year! Our committee has reviewed all of the current guidelines for theater reopening and we are excited to announce that the theater will be open for both indoor and outdoor movies!
We will be showing a series of Drive-In movies in our parking lot, which is perfect for outdoor movies. We showed two drive-in movies for Halloween and had a great response, so we are planning to hold drive-in movies at least twice a month in July and August. We may add additional drive-in showings as we solidify our plans, so stay tuned!
For indoor movies, things will be a little different in order to keep everyone safe. We are fortunate to have one of the largest theaters in the state! We have seating for almost 400 people! SO, we will be able to seat cohort groups and individuals safely spaced out! We are planning on allowing up to 50 people in the theater for each movie showing. We will also have all of the doors open with screens up for bugs. This will help with ventilation. Seating will be assigned and seats will be gridded off to allow for spacing. We will require masks at all times. Extra cleaning will take place before and after shows. Ticket prices are still $5.00 each.
We are excited to be partnering again with the Island Community Center to continue our Sunday Classic Movie Series! David Hoch will be presenting each film with a brief overview of some interesting and historical details. It is so much fun to learn more about one of your favorite films and see it on the BIG screen! We LOVE this partnership! This summer will include such classics as Dr. Stranglove, The Birds, and Fargo! Look out for our full listing soon! We will publish each month’s schedule in full and you can follow us on Facebook (add name) and Instagram (add name) for more updates.
Another fun addition will be movies in June! We have seen our year-round population grow this last year and we know people are coming to the island sooner these days, so let’s all go to the movies earlier! We are planning some fun things for June and even plan to kick off everything on Memorial Day weekend with one of the best family films ever, The Muppet Movie (1979). Stay tuned for details!
This year we are expanding our partnership program! We will be working with the Library, The Lighthouse Works, and the Conservancy to have them curate a movie that will be hosted by them.
The Library is going to host a movie made from a book that the book group will be reading in July. They have a really fun list of movies/books to choose from! The Lighthouse Works will be bringing a cool art-related film and will host an event around that. The Conservancy will be showing The Biggest Little Farm in conjunction with their great Nature Days program. We will share more details as we get the schedule set. These are fun ways to connect with these amazing organizations and highlight their great programs. The Theater is proud to host these events and to work with all of our awesome 2021 partners! Thanks to them all!
See you at the movies!
