Virtual Studio Visit with TLW alum Cara Chan

Saturday, March 13, 2021, 11 am EST

Join us at 11 am EST on Saturday, March 13, for another West Coast Edition of our Virtual Studio Visit series, where we will catch up with former fellow Cara Chan.

During the past year of quarantine, Cara has been stone carving in Topanga Canyon, where she recently finished a portrait of her grandmother. We will hear more about this ongoing series which she started back in 2018 while here on Fishers Island. We’re excited to know more about her process and what she has in store for 2021!

Cara Chan is a sculptor living and working in Los Angeles, CA.  She received her MFA from UCLA in 2017, and BFA from NYU in 2009. She studied stone carving at the Untersberg Quarry in Austria in 2019, and traditional wood carving (coffin carving) at the Kane Kwei carpentry workshop in Teshi, Ghana in 2015.  Her hand-carved sculptures pay tribute to ancient and auspicious apotropaic forms, drawing from a deep well of reverence for human relationships and earthly materials.
