IN MEMORIAM: Isabel Bryan Leib

by Jane Ahrens

Isabel Bryan Leib was born on February 28, 1927 in New York City. She died peacefully at her home in Upper Brookville on Monday, September 30th from complications related to thyroid cancer.

“Issie”, as her friends and family called her, lived her entire life in Locust Valley, NY. She was an excellent figure skater and golfer and a long-time member of the Piping Rock Club. She was a member of the Woman’s Long Island Golf Association. She won the Ladies Club Championships at both Piping Rock Club (twice) and at the Fishers Island Club (twice). She was a member of the U.S. Senior Women’s Golf Association. Issie connected with many people in the Locust Valley community through sports, volunteer work, and her network of friends.

Issie was most proud of her many years of service at the Glen Cove Hospital, where she worked in the emergency room as a volunteer for over 33 years. She also had many friends from Vero Beach, Florida, where she spent the winter months.

She survived her late husband, John H. Leib. She leaves behind her sister (Nancy Taylor), three children (Ted, Alexandra, and Bryan Danforth) and two grandchildren (Isabelle and Nicholas Danforth).

A memorial service was held on October 18 at St. John’s of Lattingtown. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Glen Cove Hospital (101 St. Andrews Lane, Glen Cove, NY, 11542).
