Stewardship is as Stewardship Does

Especially this time of year, during the comings and goings of Fishers Island’s readiness for July and August, it’s always wonderful to witness the rallying of the community to protect our precious wildlife.

Town of Southold Highway Dept. informed me of a tiny Killdeer nest with a clutch of 4 delicate eggs hidden within the upland habitat of Parade Grounds.

Thank you to Islander Steffen Kucsera, who in the busyness of his day took the time to create a bit of a sanctuary, help direct truck traffic, keeping this dear Killdeer family out of harm’s way. (Click any image to enlarge.) Photo Credit Justine Kibbe

A Fishers Island Community Center Program and the accompanying Fog Horn eNewsletter serve as the communications resource for the Fishers Island community. The content – news, calendar, links and photos, milestones, ads, and more create a clear image of Fishers to those on and off the island.
