by Jane Ahrens

Many thanks to everyone who attended the party, donated Chinese raffle items, brought delicious food and participated in the fun! And, congratulations to Country House, the Shields family and all on winning the 145th Kentucky Derby!

It was so fun to watch the race live on the big screen in the Fishers Island Community Center’s Great Room, all decorated and set up for the 2nd Annual FICC Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby Party.

With over 60 in attendance, the Chinese Raffle was a fun fundraiser with donated items from the Beach Plum, Drink n’ Vessel, Evergreen, Fishers Island Oyster Farm, Toppers, Village Market, Healing Hands, Island Hardware, Race Rock Garden, Z and S, Tiggy Health, the Functional Nutritionist Staley Sednaoui, and Joe Rogan’s golfballs!

Best dressed prizes of Churchill Downs 145th glasses went to Visions in Yellow, Diane Dexter & Sharon Patterson; Most Dapper, Ken Edwards; Coordinated Derby, Karla Heath; Most Islandie Hat, Rhonda Fowler; Biggest Hat, Di Shillo; and Best Hug, Ashley Harrington.

Additional thank yous go to Deb Doucette for the loan of the raffle cans; Ted Harrington for wine for the bar; Jeanie Cook for the help setting up, orchestrating, mint, horse centerpieces, and take down with Geb Cook; Elizabeth Reid for judging and accounting; Staley Sednaoui for RSVPs, set up and procuring and donating raffle items; David Hoch for running the live feed of the race; Linda Mrowka for set up; Stacey McCarthy for set up and raffle donation and sales; Luke Fowler for MCing; and to everyone who brought a delicious food item for the buffet.
