TBT: November 12, 2015 – from John Doucette
John noticed a tiny folded paper fall from the ceiling as he was doing some demo work this week. It turned out to be a hunting license belonging to Colby M. Chester, III, Penni Sharp’s and Geoff Chester’s father who built the house at the east end of Chocomount in 1964. The license is signed by E. Perry Edwards, Jeff Edwards’s grandfather, who was the Justice of the Peace at the time. And so it was as John said, “A little bit of Fishers Island history just fell from the rafters.”

October 29, 2015 – from Freddy Preston:
Freddy sent us this button photo and we found a H.L.F. Museum photo to go with it. Freddy said, “It was a fundraiser for the fire department that summer. Good times. I can remember it because I was 11 years old and not drinking.”

October 22, 2015 – from Pegi Griffin Everett
Mrs. Peishoff’s Kindergarten class at Fishers Island Union Free School with Pegi Griffin, Jimmy Megyesy, Dante Oliveri, Cyndy Sinclair, Dorothy Chaplaski and Mrs. Eleanor Peishoff. And Pegi sent a couple more, “Kindergarten graduation for Mrs. Peishoff’s class and First Communion at Our Lady of Grace Church . . not sure of the dates, but same cast of characters! (My little sister Pam Norton off to the side in Communion picture.)  I grew up on Fishers and graduated in 1970 (class of 4!).”

October 15, 2015 – from Nan Doyle:
“Vi at the Union Chapel Rummage recently gave me these 2 photos of our house on Madeline Avenue. The one with the latticework is dated 1931, the other undated. Vi told me her father was born in the house. I own it with my sisters, Kate, Victoria and Jessica Doyle. My mother Susanna Doyle inherited it from her mother, Katharine Lapsley Schmidt, who bought it in 1949. I thought others might enjoying seeing that Madeline Avenue was a dirt road then!”

September 24, 2015 – c/o Liz Furse at Topper’s Ice Cream.
With the closing of Topper’s after 22 years, we wanted to share this great Gazette photo. Liz opened Topper’s in 1992 and sold the 1,000 Doggie Bowl on July 29, 2000 to this group! Friends pictured are Ted Ahrens, Sofie Malinowski, Liza Brauns, Lizzy Brim, Colin Brauns and Logan Wasley.

August 6, 2015 – c/o Margy Campbell Lamere
“Swim lessons with Prof. Walters on the sand flats at Hay Harbor in 1912. Look at the bathhouses. Grandmom and her brother and sister with the other kids. Ira Peck, Margaret Williams, Anne Kinsolving, Gerry Adams, Jack Williams, Maude Williams, Anne Gaillard, Bill Gaillard. I’ve always loved it. Looking at the bathhouses…oh the memories of playing in that structure. The cold water of that pull-chain shower, the rollers to put your suit through, and the dark little dressing rooms. Pierce used that pic in the HHC 100th book.” Photo credit: H.L. Ferguson Museum
