Fishers Island Ferry Captain Marshall remarked, “Ah, another senior exodus today?” “Yes”, the volunteer driver confirmed with a big smile, “We are all escaping again – thank you and have a lovely day!”
Made possible by donations to Island People’s Project (IPP) earmarked for Island seniors, the third trip in as many years took place on April 18. This time it was another visit to the riverside town of East Haddam, CT for lunch and a musical.
Twenty-two Island Treasures* departed Fishers on the early boat, and made their way on the lovely drive northwest in several cars. A delicious lunch was served at stately Gelston House before venturing across the street to the self-proclaimed “Home of the American Musical”, the Goodspeed Opera House. The Will Rogers Follies, a life in revue certainly did not disappoint!
Many thank yous go to IPP for making the trip possible and of course to organizer extraordinaire Fran Roethgen for putting the day together for all to enjoy.

*Island Treasures in this instance are Island residents over 60.
