61st Annual Fishers Island Yacht Club ‘Round Island Race

by Jane Ahrens

Fishers Island Yacht Club (FIYC) hosted this annual event Saturday, September 2, 2017.

The Race, the Party, the Awards

82 boats participated in this year’s 61st Round Island Race run by Fishers Island Yacht Club. Overcast skies gave way to some sun and clouds. The top FIYC to win the RIR on corrected time was Jollymon, skippered by Geordie Loveday.

8 International One Designs (IODs) raced around the Island which was a very tight group, however, the victory was had by Norwegian Wood skippered by John Burnham.

12 classes competed ranging from the small Ensign one design to IODs, Watchill 15’s, J70s and the PHRF time on time handicap classes. Roughly 350 people came back to the Club for the after race party and awards ceremony which was beautifully catered by Robin Toldo.

Fishers Island Yacht Club is extremely grateful to all of the volunteers that contributed to such a great event. Also special thanks to Chris Dollar for all of his help and everyone that pitched in.
