Leave Nothing but Footprints on the Beach

by Jane Ahrens

Fishers Island community members of all ages make a huge effort to keep the island clean, picked up and beautiful all year long. So, it is really quite disappointing when you find this on the beach. Please be a good citizen and take your trash home! Don’t leave it for someone else to pick up.

The FI DOT has kindly left garbage and recycling barrels near beach entrances. Please use them!

A Global Effort

Do you know about Litteratiworking toward a litter free world. Fishers Island is on the map as volunteers tag and disposed of litter here. Check out the app and learn more.

“Litter is everywhere. Soda cans, plastic bags, and cigarette butts litter the environment, choke wildlife, and threaten our planet. Litterati is tackling this problem one piece of litter at a time.

“Geotags provide insight into problem areas, while keywords identify the most commonly found brands and products. This data will be used to work with companies and organizations to find more sustainable solutions.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if apps like this didn’t need to exist because everyone took proper care of their own waste?
