IN MEMORIAM: Christina Rhodes

Christina Rhodes of West Palm Beach, FL died peacefully at home November 14, 2016. She was 90.

Mrs. Rhodes was born in Ireland and lived in New York, NY and Fishers Island, NY before moving to Florida. She earned a nursing degree in London during World War II and later was an editorial assistant to Lord Beaverbrook. She married Kent Rhodes on July 19, 1952. They were married for nearly 40 years before Mr. Rhodes, the former Chairman of the Reader’s Digest and spokesman for the nation’s magazine industry, died in 1991.

Mrs. Rhodes devoted much of her time and energy to her family and volunteer activities including the USO and the Fresh Flower Program of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is survived by two sons, David Christian Rhodes of Palm Beach, and B. Mark Rhodes of West Palm Beach, and daughter, Jean Matthews and son-in-law, William of Palm Beach, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Maureen Light of Ireland.
