It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Anthony Dominick DiMella on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at his home in Preston at the age of 83.
Tony, the second of six children, was born on August 20, 1933, and grew up on Fishers Island, N.Y. After four years in the U.S. Navy, he worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat Division for 35 years. A long time resident of Ledyard, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play at his son’s farm in Preston.
Tony was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy of 58 years, his older brother Leo, and his parents. Antonio and Julia.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Couture (Thomas) of Jewett City, Anthony DiMella Jr. of Preston, Lynne McPherson (James) of Stonington, Peter DiMella (June) of Preston, Robert DiMella (Victoria) of Princeton, N.J. and Vincent DiMella (Monika) of Boston, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Mary Thurlow, Rose DiMella Manchester, George DiMella (Anne) and Fred DiMella (Valerie).
The family will be holding a celebration of Tony’s life from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Mystic VFW (60 Stonington Road).
There will be no memorial service or calling hours.
