Help the Fishers Island Fire Department & Others help you!

Fishers Island successfully navigated the Blizzard in January, with more snow on the way this winter!

An important reminder: Many residences are on long driveways, on private roads and off the main roads. Whether the residence is occupied year-round, or just seasonally, it is very important that the buildings can be accessed in time of an emergency, and is the responsibility of property owners.

Reasons to clear private roads and have a clear driveway – whether you are on island or off – access is needed to attend to:

  1. Fire alarm
  2. Low temp alarm
  3. Oil delivery
  4. House inspection access
  5. Emergency medical assistance
  6. Service lines to house, if down

Note: Driveways must have clearance for fire trucks, oil delivery and utility trucks all year-round. Trees and plantings must be cut back so the trucks can access the property. At this writing, there are still snow pack and ice on some driveways and private drives – time to get this cleared!

Please consult the Fishers Island Telephone Directory and the FishersIsland.net Directory for snowplowing resources.
