Catherine Elizabeth Guimaraes and Staff Sgt. Richard Paul Hoggard were married Saturday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Fishers Island in New York. The Rev. Anthony J. DiMarco, a Roman Catholic priest, performed the ceremony.

The bride, 34, is keeping her name. She is a mathematics teacher at St. Andrew’s Priory School, an all-girls private school in Honolulu. She graduated from Boston College and received a master’s degree in intermediate math education from the City College of New York.

She is a daughter of Mary Beth Guimaraes and George G. Guimaraes of San Diego and Fishers Island. The bride’s father is the president and chief executive of Project Concern International, a San Diego-based health care company that brings medications and clean water to developing countries. Her mother, who travels frequently between the two homes, is an administrative assistant in the special education department at the Fishers Island School, a public school there.

The groom, 32, is a staff sergeant in the Army, based at Schofield Barracks on Oahu in Hawaii.

He is the son of Beverly D. Carter-Humbertson of North Charleston, S.C., and Franklin D. Hoggard Jr. of Brandon, Fla. The groom’s father retired as a master sergeant in the Air Force.
