When did you first arrive on Island?

I first came to Fishers in college to visit my boyfriend and attend the famous Reid costume party. I fell in love with the island the minute I stepped off the ferry. Luckily I ended up marrying that boyfriend and now Jim and I work, live, and play on the island!

About your job:

The Fishers Island Community Center is a non-profit organization that aims to provide various programs throughout the year to all Fishers Island residents. It has a wonderful fitness facility, in addition to a bowling alley, café, craft room and meeting spaces for special events, lectures, and art exhibits. We work with the Fishers Island School and other organizations, like the Conservancy, to offer programs and space usage throughout the year. The goal is to provide increased educational, cultural, and social activities to enrich Island life for all ages and to encourage retention and growth of the year-round population. An exciting new program offered by the Community Center is the planned Paddle Tennis courts. Learn more here: Paddle Tennis on Fishers

What are your favorite things to do on Fishers?

There are so many activities you can do on Fishers. In the summer I love spending time on all the beautiful beaches, whether during the day or in the evening having fun cookouts with family and friends. There is also tennis, paddle-boarding, boating, and biking or walking the rec path. In the fall we love walking all the Museum trails and taking pictures; the light on Fishers in the fall can be breathtaking. Bundling up and searching for sea glass is a favorite wintertime activity. And of course we love sledding on the golf course when it snows. Spring brings gardening, more long walks, and the excitement of knowing the island will soon be bustling with good friends, family, and new friends. My family and I love “pitching-in” wherever we can whether cleaning trash off the shoreline or trail clearing throughout the year.

What does Fishers mean to you?

Family, friends, and sharing good times together.
