When did you first arrive on Island?
I came to the Island in the late 1940’s with my mother, Nancy Truesdale (Kelsey) to stay with my grandparents, Helen and Jerrold Bryce. They had bought a small spec house on the East End of the Island that was built by Henry Walsh after WWII. Our family moved to the Winthrop House in 1954.
For a child, primarily raised in NYC, Fishers Island was paradise. I adored the freedom and loved riding my bike in the early evening on the golf course roads. My love of nature began then and continues to this day.
What are your favorite things to do on Fishers?
I love to work in my garden and to be with my family and close friends of many years on the Island. I still enjoy riding my bike and going to the beach, especially in the late afternoon for a swim.
What does Fishers mean to you?
Fishers Island is my home physically and emotionally, as it is for many people – after 9/11 lots of people returned to the island, some for only a couple of days, but it was a place of comfort and security to gather strength in order to face this challenging world.
