Fe Grumbine and Ted Ahrens were married June 23, 2012
An Island Thank You
June 26, 2012
A long time ago – Easter Weekend 2011 – Ted proposed to Fe in the pouring rain on the HHC porch. This island has been one of their most special spots for many years and this was where he wanted to ask for her hand. So, when they arrived on our back porch in ‘The Fort’ before noon that day, it was (we must admit) a bit of a surprise to hear they wanted to be married on this very special Rock.
Since then, the love, support, welcomed advice, help and outpouring of sincere affection from all of you has been amazingly wonderful! From the first calls to Reverend Michael Spencer, Hay Harbor’s Dick Duggan and the Yacht Club crew, everyone has lent a helping hand.
You helped find housing for our family and friends; gave advise and helped with stamps, mailings and gate passes; printed beautiful table cards, placed house signs, installed tents, set sails and found ice; answered fire calls, delivered plants and flowers, made dump runs, and schlepped tables, chairs and decorations; revived a favorite Jeep, found Chinese lanterns, lent a propane tank, table cloths and lobster traps; hauled the boat, supplied dock space, baked Fishers Island cookies and wedding cake; cleaned, planned, shopped, cooked, bartended, shucked oysters; stocked ‘greyhound’ mix, supplied a projector, drove a school bus, opened the Museum and the Legion; scooped ice cream, added ferries, wrapped gifts, checked on things and kindly gave directions.
If we may paraphrase, “It takes an island!” Please know we thank each and every one of you, from the bottom of our hearts, for all the wonderful, kind contributions you made to ensure this was the loveliest of wedding weekends.
Many thanks to all,
Jane and Ace Ahrens & Caroline and Bing Grumbine
