Senior Lunch: Last of the Season

Enjoy a delicious home cooked meal, monthly door prize/raffle, seasonal table settings, and interesting conversation. The Senior Luncheons are held on the third Thursday of the month from October through May – most are held at the Union Chapel unless otherwise noted.

The last luncheon of the 2018-2019 is May 16, 2019. 

And, what is a senior at the Senior Lunch? Anyone age 60+

The Senior Lunch Committee is always looking for volunteer chefs and entertainment ideas. Island organizations are invited to host. Guest speakers are most welcome. With Easter in two days, the April 18 lunch guests were greeted with tables set by Ann Banks and Jane Pickett with adorable bunny pouches filled with Easter treats and spring flowers. Chefs Amy Harris and Gina Scumaci made a lovely chicken dish with roasted veggies and salad, served with the help of their vacationing students Griffin and Bella Harris and Jack Morrissey. Others who helped make this a special luncheon with Heather Burnham were Matt Edwards, Tracy Brock, Michelle Klimczak, and Louisa Evans. After a dessert of home baked carrot cake, Museum Director Pierce Rafferty gave an illustrated talk connected to this summer’s Museum show titled “Scotch on the Rocks” The History of Rumrunners on Fishers Island”.

March 21 the tables were set by Ann Banks and Jane Pickett with bright green in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day. Beautiful spring tulips were a special treat. The Fishers Island Community Center (FICC) staff prepared a delicious meal. There to serve the guests were FICC’s Director Jeanie Cook, with Staley Sedanoui, Linda Mrowka, David Hoch, and Stacey McCarthy. Other helpers included Louisa Evans, Michelle Klimczak, Amy Harris and her twins, Patty Faulkner, and more.

January’s Luncheon
On a cold sunny day, the tomato tortellini soup and the lovely green salad with garlic bread, and strawberries and brownie for dessert were perfect fare. The ‘hot chocolate’ centerpieces were adorable by Ellen Pickett and Ann Banks. Thank you to chef Heather Burnham for the lovely meal and to Marlin Bloethe for coming to host BINGO following lunch.

December 20th was a lovely luncheon and a full house with filet by Bill Bloethe, salad by Jamie Doucette, potatoes by Gail Cypherd and green beans by Heather, and an assortment of Christmas cookies by Karen Simoncini. Delicious! Topped off with Holiday tree centerpieces by Ellen Pickett and Ann Banks and carols by the Fishers Island’s Lower School Chorus. Photos by Matt Edwards, Patty Faulkner, and Jane Ahrens.
