FISHERS ISLAND STUDENT RECOGNITION

Congratulations to Arabella Hatfield, sixth grade student at the Fishers Island School, who was one of four students recognized by the Southold Tree Committee. Students throughout the Town were invited to submit posters commemorating Arbor Day. Arabella attended the April 7th Town Board meeting to receive a proclamation presented by Supervisor Scott Russell awarded to finalists who also received prizes.

HAMLET COMMUNITY MEETINGS

In an effort to foster dialogue with residents throughout the Town of Southold, Supervisor Russell and the Town Board will once again host hamlet-based community meetings to hear citizen concerns, suggestions and questions. This open-end discussion format will provide individuals an opportunity to informally speak with the Town Board about any topic they wish to discuss. These meetings begin in May and end on August 5th for the annual Fishers Island Town Board meeting. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide comments and ask questions of the Town Board.

PILOT STUDY OF DECENTRALIZED WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS

Peconic Green Growth recently met with the Town Board to discuss Suffolk County’s water quality protection and restoration programs as well land stewardship initiatives. The County is seeking the participation of several communities to engage in a pilot study regarding decentralized wastewater treatment systems. Fishers Island was articulated as a possible pilot site in the future. Residents can access the content of Peconic Green Growth’s study on the Town’s website by clicking “Laserfiche Weblink” (left panel)—“Studies/Reports”—“Draft Pilot Study of Clustered Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems in the Peconic Estuary.”
