Lighthouse Works Accepting Applications for 2019 Fellowships

Fellow Max Adrian ‘18

Lighthouse Works is seeking applications for our Fellowship Program from artists and writers for:

Session 36, July 2 – August 13, 2019
Session 37, August 27 – October 8, 2019
Session 38, October 22 – December 3, 2019

Fellowships are six-weeks in length and provide room, board, studio space and a $1,750 stipend.
While in residence, our fellows’ primary obligation is to the solitary pursuit of their work but we do ask every fellow to participate in an artist talk on the first weekend of the fellowship and to open their studio for an afternoon at the session’s conclusion.

Each fellow has a private bedroom and shares bathrooms, a kitchen and a living space at our residence. The house is always stocked with food (with dietary needs accommodated), and most nights the directors cook for—and eat dinner with—the fellows. Our studios are located adjacent to Silver Eel Cove where our ferry arrives and departs the island. Each studio is private, flooded with light and face the ocean. Additionally, we maintain a wood and metal shop, a Paragon kiln, a black and white darkroom and a letterpress print shop – all of which are available to our fellows.

Artists at any stage of their career are encouraged to apply for a fellowship through an online application system, Slideroom. Applicants are required to fill out a form, submit work samples and attach a CV. We strongly recommend each applicant view the Before You Apply page of our website found here.

While our staff reviews applications for completeness, a jury of experts in each artist’s field evaluates the applications and identifies the finalists. Finalists will be invited for phone interviews, and all applicants will be informed of the committee’s decision by the notification date for the relevant application period. Artistic excellence is the primary criterion for acceptance into the Fellowship Program.

Deadline: February 15, 2019
Notification Date: March 30, 2019

Lighthouse Works, a non-profit arts organization, is devoted to encouraging the development of artists through a fellowship program and to the enrichment of the year-round cultural and economic vitality of Fishers Island, NY.
