Island Naturalist: Fishers Island Conservancy
When did you first arrive on Island?
My family fixed up an old Fort Wright house in the 1960’s, I spent many summers growing up here wondering what it would be like to REALLY live here – now I know.
What are your favorite things to do on Fishers?
Live out in it, learn every day its rhythm.
About your job:
I monitor ecosystems in coastal and interior sights, observe wildlife, habitat, trends, and record data. In the summer of 2013 the Fishers Island Conservancy established the Island Sentinel Program – where I mentor future naturalists. We also established the Fishers Island Stewardship Program that works with Island entities to bridge local traditional knowledge with science research in New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
I am grateful for such a beautiful and unique “office space”.
