FICC Hosts 2018 Kentucky Derby Run for the Roses Party

What fun everyone had on the “first Saturday in May” 2018.

The place to be was the FICC (Fishers Island Community Center’s) Great Room. Guests were greeted by the sounds of Churchill Downs broadcasting live on the Big Screen straight from Louisville, and a room filled with Island community members – year-rounders and seasonal friends alike.

The buffet tables were laden with yummy finger foods laced with bourbon and other delicious flavors while the BYOB bar offered mixers for Mint Juleps and Bloody Marys.

FICC’s board president Luke Fowler played MC and welcomed the crowd of 75+ to the Races. He also thanked everyone who volunteered to help with planning, decorations, and tasty treats.

While the warm up to the big race of the day played out on screen, guests took chances on the field of 20 horses about to race in the soaking Kentucky mud and checked out the fourteen generous prizes in the Chinese auction.

Fishers Island’s favorite horse Justify is now the world’s favorite horse!

Special thank yous go to FICC’s Program Director Jeanie Cook, former Director Elizabeth Reid, Facilities manager Sarah Porter, Stacey McCarthy and board member Jane Ahrens. Volunteers extraordinaire Karla Health for soliciting all the wonderful raffle donations and her assistance with party planning, set up and the delicious edibles; and Audrey Ludemann and board member Gail Cypherd overseeing the chances on the horses. And, Jim Reid, Tom Doyen and Karl Eiriksson for their collective and major assistance and advise on all things audio/visual for the live feed.
